Gasp! Yes Pastor rudy and his wife (MEEEE!) fight. I doubt most of you are surprised. Our tag line is TeamTopete- the REAL DEAL and that's exactly what we are. REAL. We have good days and bad! As the years have gone by I feel like we've trained like boxers or MMA fighters to improve our fighting skills. But instead of trying to knock the other person out, our goal in our training is to LOVE the other person better and better each day!. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Anyways, after knocking his precious grad cap on the floor and hearing his sarcasm I snapped and sternly said "I'm not in the mood for joking right now,I don't have time for this...maybe if you put things where they belong, I wouldn't knock them on the floor." And that was it. End of fight. Rudy shut down (which is his fighting auto-pilot... I'm loud, he's quiet) and then he left for work.
Now you might be thinking....that's not a FIGHT. And I would agree... This is a very mild example of our fights, but these mild versions are becoming more and more normal for us. No more than 15 minutes later The Lord spoke to my heart and I texted him to apologize. It is becoming NORMAL for us to reconnect or check our love, our connection, our happiness level....whatever you want to call every 15 minutes or so.
God has shown us how to be very purposeful about our love for each other.
Over the past 9 years of marriage our fights have become less frequent, less volatile, less evil for evil. We typically refer to them as disagreements because they don't really even feel like fights anymore! It's awesome! All the glory and honor and praise goes to Jesus because without His love flowing through us our marriage would be a hot mess!
Recently we were watching a video on oneflesh.com. Jake and Nicci Hamilton were sharing their marriage story and it set our hearts on fire for love! Towards the end of the video Nicci spoke about "the idea that we actually could become one....not just best friends, not just husband and wife, but that we could become of ONE FLESH" and how REAL and TANGIBLE it is. Her words were such a confirmation of the path the Lord has been leading us on....walking us towards a change in the focus of our marriage and we have been enjoying each step of this journey as a team.
So I encourage you to LOVE...Love big, love strong, love passionately and never ever ever ever stop!
